King Nathan

John came up with a great gift for our nephew's birthday.
We called it King for a Day.
We made him a crown and gave him a certificate good for King for the Day at the Garthe house. Which included dinner of his choice, dessert of his choice, and games of his choice, followed by a sleepover. Usually when the cousins sleep over it is both boys, but we thought to make it special we would make it just King Nathan!
I'll be honest I thought it was a silly idea at first but all the kids thought it was great! Andrew Nathan's brother is already talking about what he wants to eat when it is his turn to be King Andrew.
Since the kids were off school for Veterans day we decided to let Nathan cash in his certificate. King Nathan came over on Thursday night and we had Spaghetti with meatballs, (no sauce for King Nathan) bread sticks, and broccoli for dinner. Followed by vanilla ice cream cones for dessert. (All King Nathans request.) After dinner Charles thought it would be fun to slide down the stairs in his sleeping bag, Nathan joined in and they had so much fun!

Then the kids played games and watched a movie before going to bed.
In the morning they played computer games, had French Toast for breakfast and played some more games before King Nathan went home. The whole time Nathan was here Madison called him King Nathan. It was so cute!!!!!
The kids had such a great time!

Halloween Week

I am becoming such a horrible blogger. It's not that I don't have anything to blog about or don't get time to sit at the computer, because I find myself sitting her too often, just never blogging. I think when I have a ton of pictures to sort through and have to decide which ones to post, then I don't feel like blogging, choosing just the right pictures is too time consuming and a little overwhelming.
So here I am ready to add some more fun pictures to share with family. The week of Halloween always seems to be a busy one for us and this year was no different. We had Halloween fun for several days in a row.It started on Wednesday night with pumpkin carving. The kids did not want to touch the inside of the pumpkin so I put latex gloves on them. That didn't work so well since their hands were so small, they finally decided to try it with no gloves. They didn't do too bad. They both used spoons to attempt to scrape out all the seeds and stuff. Madison wanted a girl face with a hair bow, but I couldn't figure out how to make the bow, so then she insisted that her pumpkin had eyebrows. So funny! That was much easier for mommy to carve. Daddy helped Charles with his and it turned out Great!!! I love this tradition, the kids have so much!!!

While we were taking pictures of Charles and Madison with their pumpkins we decided to add Claudia to the photos and try to get a cute picture of the kids. We got a few okay ones but nothing great. As you can see, by the time the kids started smiling normal Claudia was done.

On Thursday morning, Madison had a Halloween party with some friends from church. The moms in our ward that put it together did a great job, as always. Madison had fun coloring, listening to stories, playing with her friends and eating. Not many of the kids dressed up and Madison was one of them. She was very excited about being a Princess for Halloween but for some reason she didn't want to put it on that morning. Which was actually a good thing because the party was outside and she got very dirty after falling off the swing several times. But she still had a good time.
That afternoon we picked Charles up from school and drove to our friends the Johnson's and the kids played while Janica and I chatted. It was nice to sit and chat with her, we don't get to see them as often as we'd like since we moved to Riverside and they still live in Placentia. After our visit we picked up John from work and headed to Mom Garthe's work for their annual Halloween Party. The kids as always had a great time doing crafts, playing games, coloring, trick or treating, and eating yummy food.

(We decided not to put Claudia's costume on that night. She just ate most of the time anyway.)

On Friday Charles' school had a Halloween Parade. The girls and I (I love saying "the Girls") went to see it. It was really cute and fun to see all the different costumes. Charles loved being an Alligator and got lots of reactions. The only down side to such a plush costume is that is was in the 90's that day so he didn't keep it on very long at school. Madison really wanted to be a part of Charles class. She can't wait until it's her turn to go to school, too bad it's not for a couple of years.

Later that night we went to my parent's ward Trunk or Treat for some yummy chili dinner and trunk or treating. Claudia looked so cute in her costume. Once I put her in it and put her in the snugli she went right to sleep and slept the whole time. It was very nice.

On Saturday morning we went to Oak Glen and picked some apples. The kids had a great time! I did too! I'd never picked my own apples before. We went with John's sisters and their families (minus Daniel, who was working.) We all chipped in and bought a large box to fill with apples. I must say the apples were pretty good. When we woke up that morning it had been raining all night so we hesitated about going. But decided why not, maybe the rain would drive people away and then it wouldn't be so crowded. So we bundled up the kids and it turned out to be a beautiful. Nice blue sky, with cool and crisp air. I think we may just have to make this apple picking an annual tradition.
(I'll post pictures from our apple picking adventures in a separate post. Way too many for this one.)

That night we went to our ward Trunk or Treat. It was good to see all the kids from church in their costumes having a good time. And seeing some adults dress up as well. Madison was more interested in eating the candy then getting more and Charles wasn't very interested in getting candy at all, so he sat with John and passed out candy. We gave out most of the candy that the kids hat gotten from the previous nights so we didn't go home with much candy (which was my plan, I knew I would eat it all by myself if it came home with us)

Pumpkin bowling & yes, she is eating M&M's that she dropped on the floor, she loves her candy!!!

Then on Sunday we celebrated our nephew Nathan's party at Grandma and Papa Garthe's house. The theme was Super Mario Brothers and the kids had a great time making their own Mario Go Cars with cardboard boxes. Charles even insisted on bringing his home to play with.
So as you can see we had a very fun filled Halloween weekend!! We hope you all did too!!!!
